In online fraud cases, time is everything. Scammers transfer money across multiple accounts within hours. The faster you act, the higher the chance of freezing the money before it is withdrawn or laundered. Here is exactly what to do:
Step 1: Call the National Helpline 1930
1930 is the National Cyber Crime Helpline operated by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C). Call immediately after discovering the fraud — the helpline can initiate an emergency freeze on the fraudulent account. Even if full recovery is not possible, partial recovery is often achievable within the first few hours of reporting.
Step 2: File on cybercrime.gov.in
File an online complaint at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Choose the “Financial Fraud” category. Provide all transaction details: UTR numbers, recipient account numbers, UPI IDs, and screenshots of all communications with the scammer.
Step 3: File an FIR at Pune Cyber Cell
For amounts above ₹1 lakh or complex scams, file an FIR at the Pune City Cyber Police Station or your nearest police station. Carry:
